Debt Advice from Debt Advisory Line

Mental Health/Depression and Debt

Many people are vulnerable to anxiety, depression and stress related psychosis, these people are often susceptible to debts building up, it's especially important that people in this position have a regular income, support network and a secure home.

Around one in three people with a serious mental health problem are in debt, in fact they are 3 times more likely to be in debt.

Don't let them ignore the problem - it's not going to go away!

Look out for changes to their everyday life, these could include relationship breakdown, redundancy, or any kind of disruption where individuals either borrow money, or simply stop paying bills, to cope with their new demands.

Spending can be exacerbated by the mental health problems (e.g. mania and spending sprees).
