Official figures released today show that tens of thousands of people lost their jobs in Britain in the three months leading up to December.
The number of people claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance also grew in January. The TUC showed that Britain’s unemployment rate is now at 6.1 per cent, which is lower than the European average of 7.7 per cent however it is now rising at almost double the speed of the European average.
Official unemployment figures in Decembers reached 1.6 million and there are fears that this will exceed 2 million in the coming months, the highest figures since 1987.
