Debt Management Plans - An overview

Over 100,000 people every year in the UK have debt problems and need to look for help to get them back on track.

Debt Management Plans (or Debt Management Programmes as they are sometimes known) help individuals who are struggling with debts to reduce their monthly expenditure and make one single and affordable monthly payment.

It is possible for individuals to self-manage their very own Debt Management Plan. You need to contact each and every creditor you have and explain your financial situation to them. You then need to ask them if they are willing to renegotiate a new monthly payment that you can actually afford over the coming months. Self management of a debt plan is extremely time-consuming and a very stressful step to take. It is made even more difficult if you have debts with a large number of creditors. Also, as you probably aren't a trained negotiator you may well be unable to negotiate the best deal for yourself from each and every organisation you owe money to.

Debt Management companies such as Debt Advisory Line who were awarded "Debt Management Provider of the Year 2008" are often the preferred choice for many people as they negotiate with everyone you owe money to. Having spoken with you  about your circumstances (including who you owe, what amounts you owe each creditor, what money you have coming in, etc), Debt Advisory Line will then distribute your pre-agreed affordable monthly payment to your creditors on a pro-rata basis. This means that the creditor you owe the most money to will receive the largest proportion of your disposable income and they creditor you owe the least to will receive the smallest percentage of available monies.

Don't forget that Debt Advisory Line is often able to negotiate for interest payments to be stopped with creditors.
